Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 23, 2026
1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy
Raise the Shade was built for the public good. Because we are based in Maryland, this policy is designed to comply with the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA), Md. Code Ann., Com. Law § 14-4601 et seq. We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to ensure your safety and nothing more.
2. Information We Collect
- Account Information: Name, email address, and optionally a phone number for two-factor authentication.
- Onboarding Preferences: We may ask why you are using the app (e.g., "Peace of Mind" or "Recent Health Event"). This is completely optional. This information is used solely to improve the app experience and is never shared or used for medical purposes.
- Configuration Data: We ask for your Country and Timezone to ensure check-in alerts fire at the correct hour. We do not access your GPS or pull this automatically from your device.
- Contact Data: You may provide names and contact info for up to eight individuals. For each Alert Contact, you may provide a name, email address, and/or phone number. At least one method of communication must be provided for the system to function. You may provide both for redundancy, or just one based on your contact's preference.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your information strictly to:
- Facilitate the check-in heartbeat.
- Trigger alerts via Amazon SES (and eventually SMS) if a check-in is missed.
- Notify your contacts of their role and provide them with a clear, accessible opt-out mechanism.
4. Data Sharing
- No Sale of Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- Third Parties: We only share data with service providers (like Amazon SES) necessary to send your alerts.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
If you delete your account, your personal profile is permanently deleted. Contact information shared with other active users will be retained until the last associated user deletes their account or the contact personally opts out. We will not retain any data beyond what is operationally necessary.
